Conditions We Help Manage

Every patient’s needs are different. Dr. Van Dam, D.C. begins by listening to your concerns and completing a comprehensive examination. Based on your symptoms, health history, and examination findings, he will recommend a personalized care plan designed to help you move better, feel better, and return to the activities you enjoy.

You do not have to continue living with ongoing pain or discomfort. Contact our office to schedule an appointment, or learn more about how we may be able to help on the services page.

The Goal of Every Care Plan

Patients seek care for many different reasons, from long-standing discomfort to a recent injury. While each care plan is personalized to the patient, the overall goals remain consistent: reduce pain, restore function, and help you return to the activities you enjoy.

Reduce Pain

The aim is the source of the pain rather than the symptom on its own. Many patients feel relief after treatment, and others do better with ongoing care that helps reduce future flare-ups.

Restore Function

When joints are not moving the way they should, it can show up as pain, stiffness, muscle tension and reduced movement. Restoring that movement is what chiropractic care focuses on.

Get Back to What You Enjoy

Whether you are a student athlete, a rancher, or someone who just wants to stay active, the plan is built around the things you are trying to get back to.

Common Questions

What happens at my first visit?
At your first visit, we'll discuss your concerns and ask a few questions to understand your needs and why you came in. We may also conduct evaluations, such as X-rays or strength and reflex tests, to ensure the best approach to your care. You can fill in the new patient forms before you come in.
Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
Pregnancy brings many physical changes that can place added stress on the spine, pelvis, joints, and surrounding muscles. Our goal is to improve comfort, support healthy movement throughout pregnancy, and provide safe, gentle chiropractic care tailored to the unique needs of expecting mothers. Dr. John Van Dam, D.C. is Webster Certified through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
What is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a specialized chiropractic analysis and adjustment that focuses on improving pelvic balance and reducing tension within the surrounding muscles and ligaments during pregnancy.
What is dry needling?
Dry needling involves the use of sterile, single-use filiform needles to target painful trigger points and chronic tension within the muscles. Depending on your needs, dry needling can be utilized as a primary treatment or integrated with chiropractic care to help you reach your goals. Dr. Van Dam, D.C. has completed 54 hours of education and certification in dry needling through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy.
Will I need X-rays?
Digital X-rays are recommended only when deemed clinically necessary by the doctor following your history and examination. Our goal is to use imaging judiciously to help provide safe, informed, and individualized care while avoiding unnecessary radiation exposure.
Do you do school and sports physicals?
Yes. We provide Texas school and sports physical examinations to help ensure students are healthy and ready to participate safely in school athletics and activities. Physicals include a review of medical history, vital signs, vision screening, and a comprehensive physical examination in accordance with Texas requirements.
Do you accept walk-ins?
Yes. We accept walk-ins for established patients and will do our best to accommodate them as the schedule allows. However, appointments are preferred and recommended to minimize wait times and help ensure you are seen promptly. New patients are seen by appointment only. Please call (830) 796-7200 to schedule your visit.
Where are you located and what are your hours?
Dr. John Van Dam, D.C. is the chiropractor at Bandera Chiropractic, 650 State Highway 16 S, Bandera, TX 78003. Regular hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We are closed Friday through Sunday. We also hold a monthly Alternative Office Hours Day with additional evening availability for established patients.
Can chiropractic care help with sciatica?
Sciatica describes pain that travels from the lower back into the buttock and down one or both legs. Symptoms may include aching, burning, numbness, tingling, or sharp, shooting pain. Because sciatica can have several different causes, we perform a thorough examination to identify the underlying source of your symptoms and develop a personalized care plan based on your condition.
Can you help after a car accident?
Yes. Bandera Chiropractic can evaluate and provide individualized care for patients recovering from injuries related to a motor vehicle accident. Our focus is on helping reduce pain, restore function, and support your recovery, with referrals for additional testing or specialty care when appropriate.
At this time, we are not accepting PIP or personal injury cases and do not bill care as part of an active personal injury claim. Patients seeking care after an accident may still be treated on a self-pay, time-of-service basis. Please call our office at (830) 796-7200 with any questions before scheduling.
